Royal Palace of Caserta: it can be done!

As those who speak well say, the Royal Palace of Caserta is one of the biggest Italian "tourist attractions", and we who practice accessible tourism are also attracted by this extraordinary cultural asset; then let's see how to use it in the best way. Closed on Tuesdays; for more info: www.reggiadicaserta.beniculturali.it

A premise: the visit of the historic apartments, the Palatine Chapel, the temporary exhibitions held in the halls of the Reggia, combined with the complete visit of the Royal Park with the so-called English Garden, can also take up the whole day; it will be a choice of the visitor whether to stay in the Palace and take advantage of the refreshment points and the equipped toilets that are located in the palace and in the park, or whether to split the visit and leave the Palace for lunch.

First of all, it must be said that cars with a disabled badge can park for free in a parking lot adjacent to the Palace. The guide must go to the ticket office of the Royal Palace, then you can take a ramp that leads to the lift which takes you to the historic apartments. The visit of the apartments is very easy and allows you to admire frescoed halls and furnishings of undoubted magnificence, of which we give a few small examples.

At the end of the visit of the Palace, to be able to visit the Royal Park you can use a bus equipped with a platform that leaves every 15 minutes and arrives at the entrance of the English Garden (return price € 2.50). Otherwise you can decide to walk the avenue in a chair, but keep in mind that there are 3.5 km to be tackled on a slight slope, under the sun and without shelters:

In any case, before walking into the avenue, you can make a detour on the left into the Old Wood to admire the Castelluccia (a kind of play castle for the young King) and the Peschiera Grande (a body of water intended for fishing and to the "naval games" of the King).

After having crossed the avenue, remaining enchanted by the statues and the waterfalls (you need a good guide for all the news on the subject), you arrive in front of the waterfall and the group of statues of Diana and Actaeon, and here the glance is truly breathtaking.

But we are not satisfied with beautiful things, and then we undertake the visit of the English Garden, rich in rare and exotic botanical species and very special buildings and decorations, such as the Bath of Venus. Pay attention to the paths of the Garden, which are sometimes steep and with some disconnections. Immediately before the entrance to the English Garden there are toilets equipped for the disabled.

For lunch, if you choose to leave the Palace, there is this farmhouse: Agri Bernardo (*) Provincial Road 210, Castel Morrone 0823 390513 https://www.facebook.com/pages/category/Restaurant/Agriturismo-Agri-Bernardo-311307428885832/ (*) symbol indicating the presence of toilets equipped for the disabled
