We are still in the province of Naples, in the important town of Portici, which boasts a glorious past as evidenced by the Royal Palace and the numerous eighteenth-century villas scattered throughout the territory. Portici is also home to a very special initiative, the Railway Museum of Pietrarsa (*) (www.museopietrarsa.it). The museum is located in the ancient railway workshops of Pietrarsa, created in the 19th century by Ferdinand II of Bourbon and located in a large area on the sea; there are collections of vintage locomotives and carriages, perfectly preserved and beautifully arranged in the sheds. You can also admire numerous models of trains and ships of the State Railways, but the jewel is undoubtedly the reproduction of the legendary Bayard locomotive, which in 1839 was the first to enter service in Italy, on the Naples - Portici line. The structure is accessible to the disabled, who must contact the museum (see on the website) to be able to enter with their car and park in the sheds area.
At the end of the visit, for lunch we recommend something other than a common restaurant: it is a structure where you can eat in different types of restaurant, pizzeria or pastry shop, and also buy typical food products from all over Campania.
