Phlegraean Fields 2: Baia and Bacoli

We continue our journey in the Phlegraean Fields taking us to the vast territory of the municipality of Bacoli, to which the hamlet of Baia belongs; here we find several archaeological treasures, such as the Roman Baths and the Aragonese Castle which houses the Archaeological Museum of the Phlegraean Fields, not to mention the submerged Roman villas in the port of Baia, visible by divers or glass-bottomed boats, impracticable for us. Let's start with the Roman Baths (*), a vast and very articulated complex, which has been made accessible to the disabled by footbridges and elevators (ask the ticket office to be accompanied by the staff to operate the elevators). The car can be parked at the port, which is 100 meters from the entrance to the thermal baths.

Taking back your car, after a few kilometers you will arrive at the Aragonese Castle, seat of the Archaeological Museum of the Phlegraean Fields (*) http://www.pafleg.it/it/4388/localita/55/museo-archeologico-dei-campi-flegrei-nel-castello-di-baia

Disabled people can access the castle courtyard by car by knocking on the intercom of the gate. After leaving the car, the first room that can be visited is the one dedicated to the settlement and necropolis of Liternum, a site located near the current Lago Patria.

At the end of the visit to the Liternum section, you take a rather steep ramp, but from which you can enjoy a spectacular view of the sea. At the end of the ramp you can enter and visit the section of Pozzuoli, where finds of all kinds are exhibited (statues, bas-reliefs, tombs); the exhibits are very beautiful and have been arranged in an original and impressive setting. Unfortunately the other two sections, Cuma and Rione Terra, set up on the two upper floors, cannot be visited for us, due to the lack of an internal lift, while the external ramp is impractical with any type of chair.

For lunch we have identified three restaurants that meet our requirements, all three in Bacoli, in the coastal area of Miliscola and Miseno: Cycas (*): Via Miliscola 13, Bacoli +39 081 5231660 www.cycascafe.it Mistral (*): Via Lido Miliscola 24, Bacoli +39 081 5232294 / 339 1204703 https://www.facebook.com/mistralbacoli Lido Belvedere (*): Via Plinio il Vecchio 20, Bacoli +39 081 5235248 / 328 3640691 www.lidobelvederebacoli.it (*) symbol indicating the presence of toilets equipped for the disabled

After lunch, in the immediate vicinity of the restaurants, you can take a tour of the Lungolago Miseno:

And why not, you can reach the viewpoint of the road from Monte di Procida to Miliscola by car and this is the glimpse we see from above, with Lake Miseno, the town of Bacoli and Capo Miseno.

If there is more time, on the way back you can make a visit to the hamlet of Fusaro and take a look at the Casina Vanvitelliana, built by King Ferdinando right in Lake Fusaro:

Of course, what we have proposed is a rough itinerary: it is not certain that you can do everything and see everything on the same day, taking into account, for example, that the Archaeological Museum of the Phlegraean Fields closes at 2 pm; but you can try ...
