Naples: the seafront in the making

It is one of the most celebrated tourist attractions of Naples; much has been done in recent times (pedestrianization of Via Partenope, cycle path) and much remains to be completed (Villa Comunale, Aquarium) for a better use of the area. For us seated tourists it is possible to fully enjoy the beauty of this stretch of coast which, starting from Mergellina, becomes first Via Caracciolo, then Via Partenope and finally Via Nazario Sauro, with the limitations that we will see. Let's start with a glance: a shot from the much discussed N'albero installation.

Let's imagine that we have arrived in Via Nazario Sauro starting from the Royal Palace: first of all we find ourselves in front of the Fountain of the Immacolatella and the Castel dell'Ovo (*), with its incredible position in the middle of the sea. The history of this ancient structure is reported in all the guides: it is enough for us to point out that wheelchair accessibility is guaranteed by an elevator which, however, does not allow you to reach the most spectacular terraces.

With a digression from the seafront, cross Piazza Vittoria, take the Riviera di Chiaia and reach Villa Pignatelli (*), a magnificent noble residence in neoclassical style, surrounded by a large park; today it is open to the public to show a splendid collection of furnishings, ceramics, furniture, and, in an annex, an exhibition of ancient carriages (which, however, cannot be photographed ...) https://www.beniculturali.it/luogo/museo-diego-aragona-pignatelli-cortes-e-museo-delle-carrozze

Leaving Villa Pignatelli, cross the road at the entrance to the Villa Comunale with access ramps, cut through the Villa and return to the seafront; then continue to the small port of Mergellina, an ideal place for a stop at the chalets overlooking the sea with tasting of ice creams, granitas, smoothies and various drinks; it is also possible to reach the pier with a suggestive walk "in the sea".

Here ends the promenade, which obviously can be walked in the opposite direction with equal satisfaction, or only in part, according to one's needs, one's tiredness and the time available.

As for lunch, we found three restaurants that met our requirements: two are located in the pedestrianized area of Via Partenope, near Castel dell'Ovo, and one in Piazza Sannazzaro, in the Mergellina area.
