Today we are talking about a notable initiative promoted by the Campania Region and implemented by the Regional Tourism Agency in the Maritime Station (*) of the port of Naples. It is an exhibition of artistic craftsmanship from Campania which hosts the most important operators in the various sectors. But let's let the Campania Region website introduce us to the initiative:
Until 30 September 2024, the Campania Divina Exhibition can be visited free of charge at the Maritime Station in Naples, an exhibition of Campania's art masters of international level, with particular attention to the ancient artisan traditions of Campania and its influence on the creativity of world art. The exhibition, in a space of 400 m2, showcases over 100 unique works created by more than 60 artisans: a great variety of materials and skills, from traditional crafts at risk of extinction to the most cutting-edge contemporary techniques.
The various types of craftsmanship, depending on the production activities, are representative of various territorial realities: the urban area with tailoring, nativity scenes, porcelain, goldsmithery; the coast with coral, cameos, Vietri ceramics, fine inlays and leather workmanship; the internal area with silk factories and Samnite ceramics.
How do you get to the Maritime Station? The easiest way for those traveling in a wheelchair is to take Metro Line 1 and get off at MUNICIPIO. Through the recently inaugurated pedestrian tunnel you pass beneath the road, emerging directly into the port area. Along the way you can see the remains of the ancient Angevin port, brought to light during the works, waiting to be able to admire the final layout of the archaeological area of the Roman port in the near future:
Before entering the Maritime Station (the building that can be seen in the background of the previous photo), a look at the San Martino hill with the Certosa and in the foreground Palazzo San Giacomo (headquarters of the Municipality) and the Venus of the Rags:
Following the directions for the disabled route we enter the building and take the lift up to the first floor, where the exhibition is located:
NATIVITY ART:
THE ART OF CORAL AND CAMEO:
THE ART OF CERAMICS:
THE ART OF WOODEN INLAY:
As you have seen, it is craftsmanship of a very high artistic level and perfectly balanced between tradition and modernity. If we want to refresh ourselves at the end of the visit, just take the tunnel again and go back up to Piazza Municipio; there we find this oriental restaurant where you can also eat with the All You Can Eat formula:
