The Campania Romana section of the MANN reopens in Naples

Good morning! Let's stay in our city to talk about another pleasant news, the reopening, in April 2023, after fifty years, of the section dedicated to Roman Campania of the National Archaeological Museum (MANN). From the press release of the Museum we report this text: The section “Campania Romana. Sculptures and paintings from public buildings” of the National Archaeological Museum of Naples reopens to the public: 2000 square meters of rooms included in the spaces of the western wing, whose historical rooms have not been usable for over fifty years (it is specified that the MANN has an exhibition area of approximately 15,000 m2, which becomes almost 28,000 m2 when calculating the Braccio Nuovo). Two hundred and forty works on display, a real summa of Roman art, which expressed itself fertile in the region and in southern Italy. The installation starts from a suggestion: it is as if the visitor were walking along the road axes of the ancient Roman centers of Campania, taking a peek at the astonishing decorative apparatus of public buildings, discovering how art was, for our ancestors, a everyday experience. For our part, we add that the rooms of the section are located on the ground floor of the Museum, all around the Garden of the Camellias, and are easily accessible for wheelchair users. So let's start by taking a look at the works on display:

JUPITER CAPITOLINUS - Cumae

MINERVA - Cumae

MARS ULTOR (Mars The Avenger) - Cumae

BUST OF TOGATUS (man wearing a toga) ON A CLIPEUS - Cumae

And this is therefore only a small part of the works that are exhibited in the Campania Romana section of the MANN, a section which, we recall, has a permanent nature, such as the one dedicated to Magna Graecia, which we talked about some time ago. Reminding you that at MANN it is possible to refresh yourself with the tasty dishes of the MANN Cafè, we'll see you in the next post. Until we meet again!!
