Fourth and final episode of our story of Ischia. We are talking about another important garden, not as famous as La Mortella but equally well-kept and original in its approach. Let's see what is reported on the Ravino Gardens website (*):
The Ravino Gardens are a botanical acclimatization park, which brings together in 6,000 m2 in the municipality of Forio the largest and most varied European collection of succulent plants, put together by Captain Giuseppe D'Ambra in over fifty years of passion and framed by the exuberant Mediterranean flora. Every year the collection is enriched with new specimens from all over the world, while those already acclimatized become increasingly majestic: the proximity to the sea and the happy exposure to the West of our site allow for an ideal setting and growth for the plants exotic and the sunset light enhances the sculptural shapes and color contrasts of over 400 plant species.
Among the succulent plants (commonly called "fat"), cacti of every shape and shape reign supreme, but all with splendid blooms and edible fruits: columnar Cereus, globose Echinocactus and cylindrical Ferocactus, climbing Selenicereus, trailing Aporocactus, creeping Stenocereus, Espostoa covered with fluff, Pachipodium and Pereskie unique cacti with the leaves. But there are countless other succulent plants belonging to the most diverse botanical families: Sedum, Sempervivum, Crassule, Calanchoe, Agaves, Aloe, Palms, Zamie, Macrozamie, Chorisia, Nolina, Ciphostemma...
Among the Mediterranean plants we include a vast collection of citrus fruits, several examples of carob trees, strawberry trees, olive trees, a small organic vegetable garden, a large representation of aromatic plants: lavender, thyme, oregano, marjoram, mint, damask rose and several varieties of pelargonium odorous.
So let's see our photographic impressions of this garden, adding that inside there are numerous clay slabs shaped and decorated by the artist Paolo May for the Skyline exhibition, arranged in an absolutely harmonious manner with the plants, slabs that reproduce panoramas and glimpses of Ischia:
What can be added to these images? First of all, the route illustrated in the map is practically completely accessible by wheelchair, there is a convenient car park in front of the entrance to the garden, while for our refreshment inside we find a welcoming bistro, the Cactus Lounge Cafè (*) which you can see illustrated in the link we provide.
UNTIL NEXT TIME!!
